Scenario
Deploying grid-scale batteries in a demand surge
We forecast scenarios with a frigid cold front. This causes a surge in demand and a corresponding price spike tomorrow at 4pm.
The battery sits out of the day-ahead ancillary service markets that it typically participates in during the peak hours. This allows it to provide valuable energy during a price spike in the real-time market.
After the spike, the battery's scheduler continues operation, building a risk-adjusted portfolio of day-ahead energy, real-time energy, and ancillary positions.

We use long-term weather models to anticipate an anomalous heat wave coming in several weeks.
We procure energy in advance, before it gets expensive, using automated trading systems.
